Tropical summers, songwriting bliss, fruit smoothies. As a slight control freak, I'm not usually one for bright colours and erratic lines, but I really enjoy the sense of freedom and poetry within Bonnie's paintings. They remind me of pictures hung on a fridge, the whimsical detachment echoing a nursery child's scribbles. And yet, the sensitivity to colour, confident brush strokes and french influence really makes Bonnies pieces ooze cool.
"What inspires me? Mornings and market runs; bicycles and fresh flowers; making smoothies and basking in the sun; unheard music and a day in the studio; laughter and authenticity; electric ideas and big thinkers; friendship and house plants. It’s all of these things and so much more that fill each brushstroke."
But my favourite thing about Bonnie's work is not actually the work itself, but the way she markets her brand. There is something very authentic about her style. Somewhere between free-spirited bohemian and Parisian art student, Bonnie is a songwriter and blasts jazz music while she paints, pouring creativity into mountains of artwork til her attic parallels wading through a flee market. Giving that lyrics are important to her, the pieces are commissioned to contain words and meanings, unique to the client.
There are a number of references to the Renaissance movement within her french inspired shots; still life objects, paintbrushes and the occasional bust, all i believe helping to sell her product. It feels contemporary and original. She even sends a surprise poem with every painting.
The photography is bright and the styling is lighthearted. Her choice of 90's inspired models reflect a nonchalant, feminist approach in her work. You can clearly tell she has fun creating these, and I would very much like a Vessels Tee.
